A Quilting Inspiration & Mary Jo's Batik Collection......

We have a customer who is a "Quilt Artist" and "paints" with our line of Batik Fabric. In April of 2011 we featured her work in an all around general article on quilting styles. Today, it is all about the Batik Collection. Jean lives in South Carolina and is a passionate quilter. She is married to an Artist, Serge, and they share a sweet website, showcasing the fruits of their creative works. Jean Loussarian is dedicated and talented.
We particularly love how she uses the different shades of similar Batiks to create, light shadow and depth. Using fabric to "paint" with is no easy feat, but Jean excels at this difficult endeavor. Her work is nature based, Birds and Flowers mostly. Batik Fabric lends itself to this dreamy watercolor-like look that Jean is able to achieve.
This is the note Jean recently sent our way...
"I saw on Facebook where you were asking for a photo of a quilt from fabric from Mary Jo's.  I buy all of my fabric from Mary Jo's.  I usually go twice a year because of the distance to purchase everything I need without ever having to go to another fabric store.  The selection is the very best is the primary reason for traveling two and a half hours one way.  It is definitely worth the trip and something to always look forward to.  I will attach a picture of the latest wall hanging that I have made. The size is 26 X 40 inches.   My web site loussarian.com
My name is Jean Loussarian of Westminster, SC."

It always a treat to see what folks are up to with Mary Jo's Cloth.
So let's talk about our Batik Collection for a moment. We have 588 Batik choices available on the website. Yes you read that correctly! Most are from the Hoffman California Collection and we also carry some by Island Batik. The colors are magical and the painterly quality is unmatched. Did you know that the typical price for this beautiful cloth is only 7.99 per yard. An absolute bargain. Log onto maryjos.com, in the top right corner of the page, type "Batik Fabric", into the search bar and peruse our collection, you will not be disappointed, we promise. There are also some new pins on Pinterest if you want to check some out what we have featured as an "Inspiration Board" to this Blog Article.

Thanks so much to all of our customers, who took the time to send us an email sharing their ETSY Storefronts, Websites and Blogs. What a talented bunch, all of you! If you haven't sent us an email sharing your handiwork, now is the time. Send us an email today. We will be featuring these submissions over the next few months and you could be one of them!

Color, Color, Color...

Today the newest color issue of House Beautiful arrived in the mail. There is nothing like being a bit of a voyeur and peeking into some really fabulous spaces. The colors are all over the map, however they are also somewhat sophisticated.
For classic looks you may want to choose a palette of Taupes, Greys Greens or Blues. Sometimes a whole room of Tangerine, Hot Pink or Lime Green can be a bit trendy and bright. When thinking bright colors, it is usually best to use the splashes of color in Pillows, Curtains or Tablecloths. Even Artwork can have a bit of your favorite POP of color to pull a room together. When re-doing a room or a whole house it is important to think about the following:
1. How will you use the room?
2. How does your color schematic work with the "whole house"?
3. Is this a classic color that you can change up just by throwing in some new Pillows, Curtains or a Tablecloth?
This is important. The more you know and understand, the better equipped you will be to make an informed decision.
On the internet if you google "color in the home" and click on images you will be supplied with more inspiration than you will ever have the time to implement. Really! This is a fun exercise when you are thinking shades of colors and how they will play with some of your bright pops of color.
One of the blogs I stumbled upon had some interesting thoughts on a conservative but truly lovely "whole house color scheme" that could be incorporated into living and work spaces.

If you want to create good flow and cohesiveness in your home, a whole house color scheme is the way to go. It is not about having the same color throughout the house, but instead using colors throughout the house that coordinate with or complement each other.
I know…sounds easier said then done!  The new Martha Stewart Living paint line at Home Depot. Each paint chip has a color key symbol in the upper right hand corner. For easy coordination, simply select colors for your home from the same color key.  As long as the symbols match you can’t go wrong. We started with choosing the perfect color for the nursery. We moved into this house with a new (less than a month old) baby boy, whom in our old house never had a space other than a play pen. Naturally we wanted to welcome him to his new home with a great nursery just for him.
Thanks so much for the inspiration Jackie.

Cool Fabric + Vision = Great Home Decor...

We have been learning so much about you, our "Fabric Community" on Pinterest and on your Blogs. So amazing to see all that you do with our cloth. This past spring we asked for "Fabric Feedback". We sure received an avalanche of replies. We are now seeing postings of the beautiful pieces that you are  creating.
Such a joy.
Today we are going to feature a fun blog and some inspiration for your home. We have noticed from our website sales that folks all around the country are loading up on colors and patterns that reflect nature. Sometimes our customers are using bright Jewel tones like Ruby Red and Canary Yellow with some big strokes of Chartreuse and Turquoise.
Others are using the quiet colors that are calm and reflective like Sea Glass, Taupe, Pale Corals with dashes of Bark Brown and the Palest of Icy Blues. It is a fun color world out there at the moment and we have most colors and patterns you may be looking for. We have been posting on Pinterest.
This is an easy way to keep track of the things you love online. Your own board will inspire you and remind you where to go to get the things you are looking for. On our Pinterest Mary Jo's Cloth Page, when you click on a fabric image it clicks to the page with the price and order info! We know you will love that. Feel free to re-pin from our page, we love to share the inspiration!

Now onto our featured Blog. A local gal, Emily, recently did a posting on her blog "Crisp Interiors", about fabric she recently purchased at Mary Jo's Cloth Store. She says was inspired by our yards and yards of fabric. (Who isn't) She also posted many great photos, which we have popped onto the Mary Jo's Pinterest Board. Life can be so sweet and easy!
Thanks for the posting and great photos, Miss Emily. Much appreciated. Come back to the store, Mary Jo is usually around somewhere!

To all of you who responded top our request for feedback about the site, THANKS! If you have not yet given us your opinion, click on this link to read all about it! You can also send us an email with your constructive thoughts and solutions to make the website an easier way to shop!
