Summertime, Sewing Circles and Quilting Guilds...

Summertime is our yearly gift from the heavens. We have more time to enjoy the day, our children, friends and relatives. We can garden, travel and stay up late watching the stars. It is also time to think about things we really want to do in the upcoming, Autumn and Winter seasons.
Have you thought about joining a sewing circle or a Quilting Guild? There are plenty in your area, but more about that in a minute. So let's back up.
About Sewing Circles, Wiki says,
"A sewing circle is group of people, usually women, who meet regularly for the purpose of sewing, often for charitable causes.
Examples of sewing circles include the Fragment Society, and the Mennonite Sewing Circle.
Apart from charitable purposes, contemporary sewing circles may be formed into organizations on a national level, such as the Guilds in Australia and America "for people who regard sewing as a creative and rewarding activity".
It has been speculated that the phrase "chew the rag", is related to gossiping while working in a sewing circle."

Sounds right. In the past these circles gathered in homes and Church meeting rooms. The modern Sewing Circle is usually called a"Guild" and these folks create quilts and give them to people who need to be warm in the winter or the very ill or they raffle them then give the money to charity. Guilds are a good giving  organization. If you are interested in being a part of a giving organization, in or near your community log onto, quiltguilds.com.
Super simple. Just click on your state and they have all of the guilds for each state listed. Quilters are a generous and spirited lot. They are passionate about Fabric, Patterns and being Charitable.
At Maryjos.com  we always have yards and yards of Sale Fabric, we also have a large selection of beautiful patterned fabric at tremendously low prices. Just right for some of these charitable projects, our website is open 24-7 and we ship promptly. If you have a question, just "Ask Mary Jo" someone will get back to you right quick. We are working on the new Website, to make it an even easier shopping experience. Remember, Maryjos.com is run by all of us folks here at Mary Jo's Cloth Store. We care about you and your sewing needs. If you need something, have a thought or would like to order something special, do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you.
In the Store, we are blessed to be surrounded by a community of amazing sewing fanatics. We have noticed, since opening our Sewing Lounge that many folks are popping in just to chat and hang around. You can log onto our Maryjos.com to view and sign up for all of our upcoming Sewing Classes. The next time you are in Gastonia, do stop in. You can see demonstrations of our BabyLock line of sewing machines and browse the 32,000 square feet of Fabric. (The possibilities are mind blowing). Yep, we are looking forward to seeing you!

2013 Sewing Trends for Home and Fashion...

Did you know that Home Sewing is having a renaissance? Why? They say the downturn in the economy has been one of the major factors. Consider the internet with all of the "EyeCandy" on sites like  Pinterest and Google Images, it is truly hard to resist! Etsy is a also great site to peruse for new ideas. It is hard not to catch the "Sewing Bug", with all of this inspiration that is sitting on our Desktops. Seriously amazing work and talent going on in our Sewing World today! One popular Sewing trend in Home and Fashion design is, Pattern Mixing!

On the Fashion end, we are loving the lighter weight fabrics of patterned Skirts & Dresses, paired with stripes or splashes of color and a crazy scarf, it is the continuim of color that holds this look together.

This trend is also being talked up by Interior Designers. Kristin for the "Hunted Interior" has an interesting Blog and this is what she has to say about Pattern Mixing.
"Happy fabulous day, wonderful friends! The super duper Kristin from The Hunted Interior is back today, to tell us all about her take on mixing patterns. ;} So without further ado…

I am pattern obsessed.  I have never been scared to mix a print with another print, a stripe with a dot, a floral with an ikat… all I can say is “Bring It!”  Prints and Patterns can bring a room to life whether they are colorful or tonal.  They add interest. While I am not the least bit fearful about getting all crazy with fabrics, I know that a lot of you are a tad timid in this area.  I have come up with an equation of sorts that always seems to work when mixing patterns.  It works with modern to traditional prints & everything in between.  And the best part… you only have to remember three things.  That’s right, only three!

G E O M E T R I C    +    O R G A N I C   +   S M A L L  S C A L E

Really.  That’s it.  If you follow those three rules you will always have a cohesive look.  And you can always mix and match if you only want to include two patterns instead of three." We like her advice and thought it would be fun to share it with you.
Another  classic "mixed pattern" look is pairing Florals with Stripes (the Engish have been doing this for years!) For some wonderful Inspiration and Eye Candy, click onto these sites, Designersguild.com
or  theeffortlesschic.com then click onto maryjos.com and have a field day.

How about some new Pillows, Throws, Tablecloths and Curtains? You can whip these up in an afternoon. You will find colors, patterns and amazing fabrics for the project you are going to create. On our website, Maryjos.com our prices cannot be beat and we are also offering 7.99 shipping for orders of any amount, the more you buy, the better the deal.

At Mary Jo's Cloth Store we have a full calendar of classes available for the Summer Season. Log onto Maryjos.com today to see which class appeals to you!  Remember all you have to do to sign up for any of our classes is to send an Email to Miss Aimee, she heads up the Sewing Department and she is a wonder!
